Preparation for the AleMózgi! contest

nationwide primary school, grades 5–8 Official site ↗

I was directly involved in organising the first and second editions of this contest, so I know it from the inside.

My walkthroughs of selected problems are on https://www.youtube.com/@alemozgi. It is a good place to start if you want to see what AleMózgi! asks for and what a solid solution looks like.

It is a nationwide maths-and-computer-science contest for grades 5–8. No prior experience is required — what counts is logical thinking and the willingness to learn.

It is an excellent contest for beginners. Its goal is to get students into programming, and it does that very well: for many of them it is the first problem they have had to genuinely think about.

I treat it as a first step. A student who enjoys AleMózgi! has a natural route on to Logia, or straight to OIJ.

The route

Each row is a step, in order. Where a row is marked “or”, those are alternatives — pick one. Everything else in a row you do.

⬢ How the lessons run

Explain, demonstrate, then you solve.

I explain the topic and work a few examples through with you. Then the real work: a set of problems, chosen for where you actually are, and I read every solution you send. Approved, sent back with notes, or worked through together — nothing is marked by a machine.
